Polymer Clay
Swirly Lentil Bead

Author / Artist - Jackie Locantore

          Materials Needed:

                  1. 3 large pea size pieces of conditioned polymer clay in 3 different shades
                  2. a clean, smooth, hard working surface
                  3. a 3-4" smooth hard  translucent swirling tool. (square of plexi-glass - found in arts & crafts stores)
                  4. needle tool

Instructions:

1. adhere the two pieces of clay together and roll into a sphere

2. Add a strip of a third contrasting color

3. set on working surface with seam facing straight up; place swirling tool on top of ball holding with both hands;  rest fingertips on working surface; lightly press and begin swirling moving hands in a clockwise direction while keeping both hands on the swirling tool.

4. The bead will look bi-cone in shape; continue about 30 seconds or stop when you like the pattern on the bead
flatten the cone tips by very slowly swirling once or twice while applying pressure to the tip.

5. You now have a round lentil- shaped bead which may be pierced with the needle tool. (Rest the bead before piercing so that it may firm up a bit first.)
